Native Americans have been playing with dice in games of chance for more than 12,000 years, according to a new paper published in the journal American Antiquity. And the oldest examples of Native American dice predate the earliest currently known dice in the Old World by millennia.
This feels like a pretty wild update. Buried Giant Games apparently includes Josh Yearsley who designed the soon to be released Root expansion, as well as Ted Caya who had left Leder separately some time previously. I really hope it is as amicable as they say and that both studios have good things ahead.
I just feel sad about it. I’ve been buying most of my games from the same shop for years, the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. A couple weeks ago they suddenly announced they’re closing.
In particular, I like the part where you build your deck from a set of themed sub-decks before the start, and then it’s up to you to find the synergies between those themes. Not sure if there’s an existing term for that mechanic. I think it may count as a form of a deckbuilder, but editing the deck’s contents isn’t part of the main game loop. Maybe a deck drafter?
It’s action packed and fast paced, intuitive to pick up for my novice friends and family, replayable with several kinds of optional mechanics. Initially, I picked it up because someone mentioned it in a Flamme Rouge review as being better than it, and I enjoy both games to pieces as the mechanics are immersive.
2025 was a real kick in the butt so I just didn’t have as much time for games, plus I’ve been playing more 40k in general which I always waffle on if I should include in here or not.
I just played Azul for the first time and I really like it. The rules are straightforward and it’s quick to setup and pack up. It reminds me a lot of Sagrada.
It started as a world building thing and ended up complete enough to actually play. It’s a bit like chess but with tiles placed to make the field and a pog like betting system. Everyone I’ve shown it to tells me I need to publish it, but I have no idea how. Any one here have suggestions?
I’m a regular at a local BG hub and until now people keep planning sessions via a whatsapp group. This creates a few problems, such as people asking for players for a game, and then random messages pushing their message out of screen, so people don’t notice. Basically there’s a lot of people who have games who want to play specific games and people who want to play those games, and I want to find a more efficient way to organize this.
This is a follow-up to my previous post. I finally finished printing and upgrading almost everything in Dune Imperium Bloodlines. I also managed to bring it on the board for two playthroughs and it really makes the game pop-out. Totally worth the hours I spent on this, especially since it’s likely my favorite game at this point :)
I always love adding further bling to my boardgames and since Dune: Imperium - Uprising is one of my absolute favorites, I jumped to make it further. First I printed a new first player token, which is a cool AF sandworm. Then I found a bunch of replacement tokens for the generic wooden token and printed those as well for the immersion. Currently I’m in the process of also printing out some fancy water “droplets” and then later on solari and spice ones.
I’d like to get a game mat made as a board for Pai Sho. Most of the places online i can find that make boards either don’t make them big enough, don’t make circles, or don’t make them with custom designs printed on them. A while back i found Overpowered Mats, which actually does do all three of those things, but they’re no longer in the game mats business.
I have been playing a fair amount of Jump Drive lately. Really enjoying it. I did notice though that it seems if you get Comet Zone out early in the first 2 or so turns really seems to predict the win.
So what’s some easy game to play under influence of alcohol? Or other drugs if you are in to it. I am looking for just simple games we just had few rounds of BANG!.
I’ll start: the solo system in A Feast for Odin. You just have to control two hands/colors that block each other’s worker placement. No automa, no special rules.
It cane with cassette tapes. I remember having this board game when I was 10, or 11 so around 90, 91. Just don’t remember the name of it. I do remember it was a lot of fun. Anyone have clue what the name was?
Im familiar enough with board games to know that I’m asking a lot here. My goal is to have a game that I can carry around with me, walk up to people I meet in public, and ask them to play.
