This Mandarin Duck got far too close to the Egyptian Goose goslings for one parent’s comfort (or was trying to get in on the feeding going on) and got chased off.
First time I can remember seeing one of these, not sure I got any particularly good pictures of them though, this is the only one with any focus.

So turns out a bird has decided to use the choppings from my flowers and plants that did not survive the winter as nesting, and they decided the front door wreath was the best spot. There are eggs in it which I think are recent because the first time I noticed the nest it was empty, so I’m hoping I get to see baby birds. Problem is, it’s at my front door, and I don’t have another entrance/exit. Any suggestions? Is it safe enough for it to be there?
Trying to identify this nest outside my home (West midlands England). From what I can see it’s about 0.5m wide by 1 to 1.5m tall, next to it seems to be a Eurasian Magpie nest.
I’ve been taking random bird pictures for about a year now so thought I’d put some up in places where they get a bit more visibility. Here’s a robin I found a few weeks ago. Fobney Meadows, Reading, UK. This is a “female or immature” Marsh Harrier taken at quite a distance. Still, it’s my first photos of one, and only the second time of seeing one at all (and the first was a “That was a Marsh Harrier” from someone else in reference to a shadow passing over - so I’m delighted. All the more so in that Marsh Harrier’s published distribution doesn’t come close to Reading.
Southeast US. Finally got this fella at our patio. I’ve seen him hanging out at the edge of the woods where the other suet block is, but he finally got brave enough for us to see him up close! What a pretty guy.
I’m not even bothering to watermark this one. I was standing on the loading dock at work this morning and heard a distinctive squeaking coming from the power pylon on the ridge behind the building. Sure enough, our local bald eagle was sitting on it.
Picture taken 3/9 in Central Ohio. I was out to see the woodcocks at sunset, which I did, but it was too dark for pictures at that point. I did however get a couple of late-day pictures of calling Eastern Meadowlarks. Very nice colors. I am also getting used to my new camera, having upgraded from a Lumix G85 to an OM-1 mk ii. Also using new processing tools, PureRaw 6 & RapidRAW 1.5.1.
Its really hard to enjoy a nice day on the beach when this guy decides to sun himself right in front of you. I contacted the local bird rescue, but he hopped in the water before I could get close.
